‘N Sync Reunion Set For VMAs

If the rumors are true, then ‘N Sync isn’t saying “Bye, Bye, Bye” anymore.

Rumors are flying that ‘N Sync will perform together at the MTV Video Music Awards, set to take place this Sunday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Former band mates J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick are scheduled to join Justin Timberlake on stage for a special performance after Timberlake receives the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Timberlake will be honored with the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for his “pioneering and innovative impact” on music videos.

A reunion performance by the ‘90s pop group this Sunday would be their first performance since their break-up in 2002.  While ‘N Sync’s initial split was only temporary, the band parted ways when Timberlake decided to focus on his solo career.

And we all know how that turned out for Timberlake. JT—as he is known to his loving fans—has skyrocketed to fame.

Timberlake is nominated for 6 VMAs this year, including Video of the Year for “Mirrors”. Timberlake is second only to Madonna in total VMA wins with 14, including his work with ‘N Sync.

So is there any truth to the ‘N Sync reunion rumors?

Last Friday, the ‘N Sync crew was spotted in the VIP section for Timberlake’s show with Jay Z in Miami. There are also reports that the pop group held rehearsals for a possible VMA performance.

One thing that is for sure (at least for now) is that this potential reunion is “No Strings Attached”. A full reunion concert tour has not yet been scheduled.

Grammy Nominees Announced!

Wednesday night in Nashville, in a ceremony hosted by Taylor Swift and LL Cool J, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced this year’s class of Grammy nominees.

Since the announcement, the headlines have been just as focused on the notable snubs as the emerging young talent being recognized. While breakout artists like Carly Rae Jepsen and Frank Ocean are being recognized for their phenomenal freshman efforts, people can’t help but bring up some major names who are notably missing, specifically Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, and One Direction.

Unlike last year’s Grammys, where Adele took home six statuettes, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year, in this year’s field, there is no dominant presence.

Familiar names like Jay-Z and Kanye West are competing for Grammys in six different categories, but they are joined by lesser known artists like Dan Auerbach of the blues duo The Black Keys, Frank Ocean, fun., and Mumford & Sons, all of whom join the two hip hop icons in leading the pack with six nominations.

The nominations, specifically for Album of the Year, reflect what appears to be a resurgence of rock music. In recent years, nominations have favored mainstream pop stars like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, and Rihanna. This year, with the exception of Frank Ocean, the nominations have all gone to rock-based acts, and at this point, Mumford & Sons’ indie-folk masterpiece “Babel” appears to be the early favorite.

Tune in to see who will walk away with the Golden Gramophones when The Grammys air on CBS, Friday Feb 10th at 8:00 p.m.

Live Performances Take Center Stage at AMAs

AMA Justin Beiber

Justin Bieber holds up his American Music Award Trophy

Last night, the American Music Awards took place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and on a night filled with memorable performances, a pair of musical throwbacks stole the show.

While the young stars of today like Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Taylor Swift, and Nicki Minaj took home the major hardware, the two stars who generated most of the water cooler buzz this morningStevie Wonder and MC Hammerhad hit songs that came out before most award recipients were born.

In a moving tribute to the award show’s founder, Dick Clark, Stevie Wonder (an eleven-time AMA winner himself) performed a medley of his hits as video screens ran a slideshow of “America’s Oldest Teenager” with a whole array of famous musicians, actors, and other entertainers.

However, it was MC Hammer’s surprise appearance at the end of the broadcast that has set the internet ablaze. It was no secret that K-pop star PSY was going to sign off the broadcast in (Gangnam) style, but when he walked onstage in a pair of low-hanging harem pants, everyone knew something was up.

Sure enough, mid-song, MC Hammer showed up onstage to take the song in a new and different direction, mashing up his “Too Legit to Quit” with the bouncy Korean dance hit.

These two performances were standouts among a night jam-packed with performers showing off their chops. Over the course of the three hour broadcast, there were performances by Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen, Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Ke$ha, Linkin Park, No Doubt, Pitbull, Pink, Swizz Beatz, The Wanted, and Usher.

Check out the video of PSY and his special guest below:

X Factor Signs Mario Lopez, Khloe Kardashian As Hosts

Fox has confirmed that Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian will be co-hosting the live shows of The X Factor starting this November.

The news was also confirmed by the program’s co-creator Simon Cowell.

“The worst kept secret in Hollywood is out,” he said in a statement to MTV News. ”Mario and Khloe are our hosts. They will debut on our first live show in November and I couldn’t be happier.”

Lopez is already an omnipresent television host, anchoring the entertainment news magazine show Extra and dance reality competition America’s Best Dance Crew.

“I’m very excited to be joining the ‘X Factor’ team,” he said. “I love the show, and I’ve been a big fan of Simon Cowell and the judges for a long time. Khloé and I have been friends for years and I know we’ll be a great team and have a blast.”

Meanwhile, this will be Kardashian’s first TV hosting gig, as most of her experience has revolved around the E! reality series universe centered around their family.

“I’m so thrilled to become a part of the ‘X Factor’ family,” she said. “I’ve been a big fan of the show and look forward to working with Simon and all of the judges. It’s going to be so much fun!”

TMZ has reported that according to sources connected to the deal, Khloe’s mom Kris Jenner had to step in and close out a deal so her daughter can land the hosting job.

Negotiations between E! And Fox almost came to a complete halt because they could not agree on a deal allowing Khloe to appear on both TV networks.

On Ryan Seacrest’s radio show last week, Kardashian said, “I’m so nervous — I’ve never hosted before! What if I get kicked off the show because I say something so bad?… I just have to control the language a little bit.”

Justin Bieber To Guest Star On The Simpsons

Hold on Beliebers! Justin Bieber has just landed a role on The Simpsons.

While his popularity is attested by his certified platinum albums, most critics believe that being included in the upcoming season of The Simpsons reinforces the “swaggy” teen’s superstar status.

The Simpsons has been known for guesting big names such as Elton John and Paul McCartney on the show. It can be remembered that Lady Gaga even had a whole episode dedicated to her last year.

By getting Bieber to appear in a guest role, the show’s producers are tapping into the millions of Beliebers considering that the teen star is five years younger than the long-running animated show.

The whole world knew about his new gig when Bieber himself tweeted his upcoming role, “Just did a voice over for the SIMPSONS!!! #swaggy.”

He might have been too excited as the tweet was immediately removed for unknown reasons. No chance for surprises as the show confirmed Bieber’s guest appearance.

So, what will be Bieber’s role? Al Jean, the show’s executive producer, revealed that while Bieber will not be appearing in a full episode, the latter will play a cameo role in the upcoming season’s “The Fabulous Faker Boy” episode.

Jean shares on Entertainment Weekly, “He tries to get into a talent show that Bart is playing piano in and they won’t admit him. Draw your own conclusions.”

So it’s just a cameo role, but he expects that Bieber’s fans will surely watch every bit of it. What better way to plug the show than to give a teaser to the fans. However, fans have to wait a little bit longer as the episode that features Bieber will be aired next year.

Other stars that were confirmed to be part of the The Simpsons’ 24th season are Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman and Steve Carell.

Now, are you not excited to see Justin Bieber garbed in yellow? We can’t wait to see how he will fit into the cartoonish, witty and old-schooled humor of The Simpsons.

The 25 year old Grammy-nominated pop star has announced the release of her illustrated memoir entitled “My Crazy Beautiful Life”.

She discusses how much of her life has changed in a short time, revealing “In less than three years I’ve gone from being the worst waitress in LA to living out my childhood dreams of singing my songs to people all over the world. Sometimes, it feels as if the last few years have encompassed a few decades.”

In an interview, Ke$ha further shares what is to be expected from the pages of “My Crazy Beautiful Life”, quipping “You might have heard my voice on the radio, seen me onstage and on the red carpet, or in a music video, but that’s only a part of the story.

LMFAO To Split?

How are we supposed to party rock now?

Redfoo and Sky Blu, collectively known as electro-pop duo LMFAO, recently announced that they are going their separate ways, admitting that they have slowly drifted apart from each other and now are thinking of having their own separate projects.

37-year-old Redfoo, or Stefan Gordy in real life, said he and Sky Blu (real name: Skyler Gordy) have “naturally just started hanging with two different sets of people, two different crowds, but we’re always family. He’ll always be my nephew, I’ll always be his uncle.”

He also hinted at a burnout of sorts for the duo behind the hits Sexy And I Know It, Party Rock Anthem and Shots, among other party pop hits.

“I feel like we’ve been doing this for so long, five or six years,’ he added. ‘And we’re kind of like saying, well, let’s just do what’s natural and just kind of explore that, instead of like forcing it all the time.”

But a week later, LMFAO fans were relieved to hear that the duo did not plan on splitting up the group permanently.

For his part, Sky Blu told MTV that they will be back together soon to fill that party music void once again.

“We’re family and stuff, so it’s always love. Let us get our wind up, let us kind of show the world who we are as individuals and then we come together stronger than ever,” SkyBlu explained to MTV. “I have a backlog of a lot of songs.”

Indeed, it does not seem just the time yet for LMFAO to bow out of the music scene. Since they started six years ago, their album sales and concert tours have been certified cash-earners, and they have also received a Grammy nomination (Best Dance/Electronica Album) for their 2009 album Party Rock.

Here’s hoping they come back reinvigorated and reinspired with more champagne showers and shots.

Celebs To Honor Whitney Houston

A gathering of high caliber performers will be witnessed this fall to celebrate and remember the music and influence of the late multiple Grammy award winner Whitney Houston.

The concert special will be brought by CBS and Grammy’s as a tribute to the renowned artist.

Reportedly, the likes of Celine Dion, Usher and Jennifer Hudson will take part in the concert by giving life to the singer’s all-time hits as they take center stage on October 11.

Fans are excited to see this spectacle because it will not only feature reminiscent performances from big artists but will also include snippets of unseen videos of Houston with her friends plus some unreleased interviews of her.

The hour-long prime time special “We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston” will be aired on November 16 on CBS.

Alongside this tribute, a new album featuring some of her classic hits will be released. It will include 11 of her chart topping songs that made the Billboard Hot 100 and some R&B and all-time classics from more than two decades of her being in the industry.

The album is also comprised of re-mastered songs and a new version of “I Look To You” which she recorded with and was penned by R. Kelly. Another awesome treat to fans would be the inclusion of her unreleased song “Never Give Up”.

The “I Will Always Love You- The Best of Whitney Houston” is due November 13 this year.

But wait, there is more for the Houston fandom to look forward to! A subsequent photo book will be published late November.

The photo book will feature the works of 22 photographers who donated their photos for the book project. Some 130 photographs of Whitney Houston, some never been seen and some already iconic shots, will be contained in the book tribute.

Gangnam Style Goes Global

South Korea’s most notable contribution this year to pop culture wasn’t its Samsung Galaxy SIII smartphone or Galaxy Tab, but rather an infectious dance craze and pop beat that has caught the world by storm: Gangnam Style by Korean rap artist Psy.

The video debuted on YouTube in July, and it quickly made the rounds of social networks and went viral beyond Asia, eventually infecting American television as Ellen Degeneres, Britney Spears, and other celebrities joined in the fun.

Despite the language barrier, international audiences couldn’t seem to get enough of the hit song-and-dance fiesta.

Just a couple days ago, it set a new Guinness World Record for the most ‘Likes’ on YouTube with over 2,992,000 thumbs-up and counting on the video-sharing site.

It’s also quickly closing in on the 30 Most-Viewed YouTube Videos of all-time, with 415,316,156 views so far.

The song is a satirical look at South Korea’s affluent and influential Gangnam neighborhood, an area that has quickly become the center of new wealth, prestige, and flash not unlike New York City’s Upper East Side.

Its social parodies, of course, mean little to audiences unfamiliar with the area the song makes fun of, and people are more drawn to the catchy Pitbull-esque pop beat and the horse-dancing (which, by the way, Psy has made cool again, much to the delight of those who remember the horse dance from the ’60′s).

A few years ago, the Wonder Girls made a dent in the international music scene with their hit “Nobody” which, like “Gangnam Style”, featured no more than five English words (I want nobody, nobody but you) but more than made up for it with a hard-to-resist pop melody and choreography.

Globalization, you say? After all, music is a universal language, and K-Pop seems intent on being one of the official ones.

Elton John & Madonna End Their Feud

You read that right – it looks like one of the longest-running and cattiest feuds in pop has finally been brought to a close following some revealing comments made by Madonna at a recent concert in Nice, France to promote her album, MDNA.

Onstage, Madonna dedicated her song, Imagination, to Sir Elton, telling the crowd

“I’d like to dedicate this next song to Mr Elton John. I know he’s a big fan of it, and I know he’s a big fan of mine… I forgive him. Gotta start somewhere.”

Sources report that the Queen of Pop’s comments actually came after the two stars kissed and made up in person, with sources confirming that the pair ran into each other at the Petite Maison restaurant near Sir Elton’s south of France villa.

The apparent peace treaty surprised virtually everyone in the music biz, coming so soon after some less-than-kind comments made by the Rocketman in an Australian interview where he slammed Madge as looking like “a fairground stripper” and taking a little too much obvious pleasure in some of the criticisms and bad publicity surrounding the MDNA tour.

Only time will tell if the truce will hold, especially as Madonna has an awful lot to forgive Elton for.

As far back as 2004, Sir Elton railed against the singer following her victory in the Best Live Act category at the Q Music Awards, raging “Madonna, best f***ing live act? F*** off, since when has lip-synching been live?”

His husband, David Furnish, is also a wild card who will need to be contained, after he got involved via Facebook earlier in the year, calling Madonna’s Best Original Song acceptance speech at the Golden Globes “embarrassing in its narcissism” after she beat Elton and his duet with Lady Gaga, Gnomeo and Juliet.
